Q&A essays
What is your most memorable childhood experience?
I remember family get togethers between both sides of my family. I enjoyed having my whole family together and I especially enjoyed seeing my grandparents interact. I also recall teasing my grandparents about how picky they were with the coffee they drank.
What immediate family member do you closely identify with and why?
I closely identify with my mom’s father most, because he seemed to think about things from a unique perspective. This resonates with me because I also naturally try to see different perspectives by default for almost everything. He was very analytical and calm, which happens to be how I am as well.
What character traits do you admire in an individual?
I admire the ability to have compassion for others because that shows you can try to understand someone. I value honesty in someone, because that shows good morals. Lastly, I admire an openness to admit their faults, because that shows an ability to grow.
What is the funniest thing ever to happen to you?
The funniest thing to happen to me was when I was playing video games with my little brother when I was about 19. While we were playing my nephew that was roughly 5 and very shy, just starts reading something on TV perfectly. This was funny because neither my brother nor I knew he could read because he really didn’t speak much, but decided to read what I recall was roughly a paragraph of text.
If time and money were not an issue, where would you travel and why?
I enjoy warmer climates so I would definitely love to travel to Spain. My mom’s side of the family is from there and I really enjoy their food. I also love going to the beach and eating fresh seafood.
When and if you ever have children, what would you like to pass on to them?
I love this question. The biggest gift I could pass on to my children would be my ability to always try to understand the perspective of others I engage with before I allow emotions to kick in and blind me. Most arguments can be solved if both sides can understand why the other person feels how they feel. People nowadays cannot have a civil conversation with someone about disagreements without having conflict. My biggest strength is my ability to understand people and connect with them. I believe the reason connecting with people is so easy for me is due to a genuine interest in understanding their perspectives before expressing my own.
This IQ score is derived from the donor's SAT total. SAT performance correlates strongly with general cognitive ability, so the value shown here is calculated by mapping the donor's SAT result to the standard IQ scale (mean 100, standard deviation 15). It is an estimate rather than the output of a full IQ assessment, but is widely used in research as a reasonable proxy.
