What is your most memorable childhood experience?
From as early as I can remember, to its eventual closure in 2012, the neighborhood Blockbuster was a weekly pilgrimage for my family. We hosted theme nights, movie marathons, and practically cleared the shelves of all the horror releases. That was a lot of Blockbuster trips.
What immediate family member do you closely identify with and why?
I probably identify most with my maternal grandmother. She was a self-made woman who took a lot of risks. Even when she was dealt a bad hand, and that happened often, she never backed down. I'm a lot like that, myself.
What character traits do you admire in an individual?
I admire authenticity. Owning who you are and living true to yourself is, I think, the core to being happy. I get along with these kinds of people best of all, even if we may have profound differences in beliefs, or tastes.
What is the funniest thing ever to happen to you?
I was in a relationship with a girl who was a professional clown. After our first date, I dared her to show up next time in full clown getup, and she called my bluff. We had brunch, people stared the whole time, and we could not stop laughing all the while.
If time and money were not an issue, where would you travel and why?
What better way to see the world than from the International Space Station? Fewer than 300 people have been up there, so it's a pretty exclusive club. Just make sure I can get back once I've gotten my fill.
When and if you ever have children, what would you like to pass on to them?
I think I'm a pretty sharp guy. I hope they'd inherit that from me, maybe a general curiosity about the world around them. Taught behavior? A love for the outdoors, for culture, my sense of loyalty, and my tenacity.
